Pfft its JUST like San Antonio. I wanna kick San Antonionians ALOT of the time. There's NO common courtesy present at all around here, especially on the roads.

Did Peter S Beagle give a seminar on "How not to use your turn signal and get away with it?" ;)

[identity profile] foehelm.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
If he hasn't, I'm sure he's got one in the works. That pompous bastard.

Damn you Peter S. Beagle...

Ain't that the truth?

Where did the "turning signal is a sign of weakness" mentality come from? I almost got in about 3 accidents last night cause some moron was too lazy to hit a blinker.

Sheesh.

Ahh veyr good question! ASk Dr. Stupid!

Dr.Stupid; Hello and welcome!
Today you will learn "turning signal is a sign of weakness".

In today's fast paced city of Atlanta using your turning signal is a sign of weakness? Not so! It is more of a failure in response to non courteous drivers! But you say “how so?” When you use your signal the other driver speeds up and close the gap that you can merge in to, this comes from fear of given in or feeling as though their king of the road. Cars are like little houses that extends their personal space. Theses people have an inferior complex and don’t like to back down as in given you the right of way. Now that also brings to fact that they have the right of way and don’t have to let you in! I have seen may ah time when a mini van driving down the on ramp meets with a semi truck in the right land and the mini van find himself running on the emergency lane heading for the over pass pylons! Why? Well the semi has the right of way; it isn’t up to him to place you in front of him. He could have been courteous and let the mini van in but does he have to? Nope. Now what weapon does a poor driver have to defend himself from this road barbarism? Don’t signal what you’re doing! Thus leads to turning signals not being used!
You are a victim of the dynamics of the statement above.

Stay tune till next week when we talk about “The two solid yellow lines and how to avoid driving over them.”

I think it was Dave Barry who first voiced that EXACT sentiment on behalf of South Florida drivers!

I honestly think that Drivers Ed now teachers how NOT to use your turn signal and make every driver around you CRAZY. Maybe it is supposed to enhance our guessing ability. NOT!!!!!! Happened to me yesterday coming home as well. THANK GOD for those four letter words and biting of the tongue.

[identity profile] gypsyariana.livejournal.com 2006-01-15 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Or biting of the thumb, as they do in R&J.

[identity profile] crazyauntjaynie.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that too, biting my tongue and thumb and doing other gestures with fingers. They all work for those idiots that can't use the car accessories they were given.

[identity profile] hallmonkey.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, and they even come factory-installed in vehicles! Do not be afraid, folks!

[identity profile] gypsyariana.livejournal.com 2006-01-15 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! They couldn't make it easier to use the stupid things, and yet...

[identity profile] fierce-rabbit.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It's amazing isn't it?

I try so hard to be a courteous driver. If someone rips past me because I have my turn signal on -- or they do something else stupid -- I give a heavy sigh and resolve to stubbornly stay the course.

It's not easy, though, when some eedjeet in a massive vehicle almost runs you off the road.

Evolution. It's not easy, but it's worthwhile.

[identity profile] gypsyariana.livejournal.com 2006-01-15 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I do too, though sometimes I fail miserably.

Cursing to myself usually helps relieve some of the aggravation.

Evolution. It's not easy, but it's worthwhile.

Ain't that the truth! :)

I have to say that I am guilty of this, but usually when I am alone on the road or the next car is far enough back not to be bothered by it, or I'm in the turn lane!

But it happens around here all the time. I almost plow into about 4 cars every morning on the way to work. And lets not even talk about the horrible drivers in the mall parking lot! That's a whole different area there!
