Princess for a day
Jan. 21st, 2004 02:06 pmSo, I just had to post this:
Sunday, I sang some madrigals at the High Museum with a couple of friends for some big event they were having. I was wearing my original "gypsy" costume, which is all blue, and the skirt is embroidered, and I had a different headpiece on-chainmail with blue beads hanging down.
So, after our last set, this woman comes up with her little girl, and says, "My daughter is convinced you're a real live princess, and she wants to meet a real live princess." I asked the woman what her daughter's name was-"Eleanor." I turned to the little girl (who couldn't have been more than about 3 or 4), and said "Eleanor, that's a great name for a princess, you must be a princess too!" at which point, little Eleanor gets very shy and hides behind her mother. So, I get down on my knees, on the little girl's level, and try again to talk to her. Well, all of a sudden, she practically jumps into my arms and gives me this huge hug! It was so sweet, it almost made me cry. Then she got all shy again and hid. But that just made my day. I always wanted to be a princess! :)
Jammed with Wade on Monday. That was fun. He showed me a couple of tricks to use when attempting to solo on the guitar (which I do very poorly), and then I helped him out a little with one of the songs he's singing with Noise.com. It was great fun...and we might even do the song out at Faire this spring! :)
It's very slow and boring at work today. We had our first two Romeo & Juliet matinees this week...250 high school students both yesterday and today. And we have these for the next 16 or so weeks, first with R&J and then Midsummer. *sigh* It is just not fun to deal with 250 high school kids first thing in the morning. Especially when most of them are bigger than me.
Have KL rehearsal tonight...am looking forward to it. We've been playing really well...hope that continues through the gig! Am very excited to have Kat and Wade come hear us. :)
