Support Team Fiver!
Oct. 22nd, 2008 02:29 pmI know many of you are walking yourselves, or have already sponsored one of us who is, but here goes anyway!
And thanks to those who are walking or have already donated (or both!) to me, or to one of the other members of Team Fiver!
We are walking November 8 to Defeat ALS.
The fabulous, beautiful, spirited, funny, and all around wonderful Mel, aka
hazelrah1 was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) earlier this year. We are walking with her, and in her honor, because she has touched all of us and made our world a better place.
I know times are tough right now. I know there's not a lot to spare. But if you have an extra $1 or $5 or whatever, please consider donating to the Walk and to Team Fiver!
A few facts about ALS:
It is a progressive, fatal, neurodegenerative disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe. It is estimated that in the advanced stages, care can cost an average of $200,000 a year.
The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages two to five years from the time of diagnosis.
ALS can strike anyone. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This really sucks, and Mel and her family deserve so much better. So if you have a little to spare, please help out!
