"Are you okay?"
Feb. 25th, 2005 04:04 pmI had to share this, because it made me laugh.
Most of you know about our "sound sculpture" here at the Tavern. For those who don't: during our shows, instead of using canned sound effects off a CD, most of the bird chirps, armies marching or fighting, or whatever else we need in that vein are all done by live actors backstage.
Seeing that my desk is backstage, this can get quite amusing when I'm on the phone or trying to work. When I know it's coming, I just hold off on making calls or answering the phone. The other day, though, we were in the middle of a Hamlet rehearsal, and I was on the phone with a patron, when suddenly: sound sculpture! It was, I believe, one of the ghost scenes, so there was much screaming and moaning and the like.
The woman on the phone says "What's that?"
I explain that it's just sound effects for the show.
She goes, "Oh, okay, I was afraid I might have to stage an intervention for you or call the cops!"
Hey, at least I know our patrons will look out for me, should I ever get attacked when i'm on the phone. Hopefully I'll never have to worry about that for real...
