and while I think that Micheal York played the best D'Artagnan, Gabriel Byrne did a fantastic job with the older and wiser D'Artagnan. In fact, I'd be willing to say that Man in the Iron Mask was one of the best casts I've seen for Dumas' work, certainly of the musketeers. Now I think I shall go watch it. After I find out who I am.

(Rochefort? Isn't that a smelly kind of cheese? -- From that OTHER Musketeers movie.)

I agree, on both d'Artagnan counts.

Now I'LL have to go watch Man in the Iron Mask. Well, next time I have time to sit down and watch a whole movie.

The problem I had with Platt's Porthos was he was the least like any of the actual character was. Dumas' Porthos was a big, dumb brute, where Platt's was... well, "Porthos the Pirate!" On the other hand, Platt's WAS a lot of fun to watch.

I am the happy owner of Gabriel Byrne's Musketeer cloak =) as well as Andre's costume =)

I find both Micheal York and Byrne did a fine job. Funny thing is when I do D'artagnan at fest I am more Byrne.
