I had to read The Hobbit for school and I LOVED it - it was one of the few books I read and actually paid attention to. Unfortunately, it was LOTR I couldn't get through (until recently that is - now I love it and seem to have loads of dreams about this one elf.... sigh.... heeheehee)
I had to read it in two different classes-Brit Lit in HS and Literature of Fantasy in college. Loved it so much the first time, and was thrilled to get to read it for class again! (And have since read of my own volition several times.)
LOTR is tough the first time around...it doesn't really get going until about halfway through the first book. But oh, I love it so. Cute elves and hobbitses and rangers and such don't hurt either. ;)
