Dragon*Con
Sep. 5th, 2006 03:01 pmI so don't want to be at work today. I want to be catching up on my sleep from the weekend. Thankfully, it's slow, so I can cruise the internet looking for DCon pics.
Speaking of that...the ones
captnsparrow and I took are up at his website. http://www.captnjacksparrow.com/DC2006/index.htm
Despite having to work Friday and Saturday days, it was much fun. Staying at the hotel (despite the fact that we are BROKE BROKE BROKE now) was definitely a great idea.
foehelm,
chatdecalicot, and Christy were great roommates.
After a 2 "Midsummer" performance day in Fayetteville, plus working a few hours at the Tavern in between, I raced home to pick up the Captn and Koudelka and we hustled down to meet Foe and Hill at the Marriott. The rooms have been renovated lately, and are very nice! Went to bed early, though, b/c I'd had a long day and wasn't feeling well.
After work, and getting yelled at by a police officer b/c I misread his signals while also trying to read the "Marriott Parking Full" sign, and then getting lost downtown trying to find somewhere else to park, I changed into my "random hobbit lass" costume for Bree. Finally got to wear the hobbit ears that I bought at GARF this spring. Danced to Emerald Rose with a bunch of AoME folks. Wheeeee! Retired a bit early again, though, because we had to get up early for the Parade!
Woke up bright and early to get pirated up for my first ever DCon parade! We had quite a showing for the pirates this year. Wade debuted his Davy Jones Chest, and he, Berg, and our Norrington spent a good portion fo the parade chasing each other around, trying to get the chest. I handed out fake gold coins to children along the route, but ran out halfway through. Matt Pirate (from the GARF Pirate Ship) did his best cheerleader impression ("Come on, pirates, give me an ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!" and we'd all scream along. That, and we'd sing "Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me" over and over. Much fun to be had.
Headed up to the AoME pizza party after that. Some kind soul apparently donated money to cover our pizzas, so thank you whoever you are! Scarfed some pizza, as I had to get to work after that.
Back at DCon later that day, I finally debuted my Tink costume. My favorite comment: "The wings are great, the dress is great, but what really makes the costume are the SHOES!" (Since I had little slippers with the big white puffballs on them.) Plus, it was nice that people actually wanted MY picture, instead of just letting me get in the pictures of
captnsparrow out of pity. ;)
The wings on the Tink costume are really top-heavy, since they're so tall, and the shoulder straps have to be uber-tight as a result. I can't wear the costume for very long. So after a couple hours it was back to the room to get into pirate garb for the Pirate Party! It was a fun gathering of piratical types and our friends-more of a meet and greet, hang out thing than a room party. We got a bit rowdy, though, because a couple hours in, the hotel staff came and shut us down! Well, not really...they asked us to move down to the Garden Level (where the restaurants and bars are) because we were disturbing some of the guests on the 11the floor. It's not a party until you get shut down! ;) Unfortunately, that meant that many folks wandered off to other places, and the "pirate walk/photo op" from the Marriott to the Hyatt never happened. There's always next year!
After the pirate festivities of Saturday night, Sunday was not an early morning. Got Tinked up again, with Wade as my "wingman"...watching out so I didn't bean anyone in the head with those big ol' wings! We walked through the exhibition hall and the dealer's room, which was a bit difficult in those wings! When I got tired, I went and changed into what I was calling "morgan le fay"-my blue renn dress with celestial accessories. (And that's different than my normal ren garb how? *snerk*) At one point, someone thought I was Elizabeth Swann, just because I was with Jack Sparrow. WTF?
Hung out for a bit with Pirate Tommy and Wade, until Maddy and I went running off and left them to pirate debauchery.
Went to the Yule Ball. Walked in the room, and the Emerald Rose guys are setting up and sound checking. I hear "Becky!!!" Look around...who's calling my name? Look up, and see the ER guys waving at me from the stage. "Hey, Becky!" Sure makes a girl feel good when she walks in the room and the band calls her out by name! :) Talked to the guys briefly, and Logan complimented my dress and gave me one of the blinky plastic rose rings. Wheeeee! :)
Spent much time dancing to the HP dedications, and later ER, with
merryfaerie,
dancingwriter, Lady Amanda, and various other folks. Missed my dear Hobbit Sister Penny, though! Twirled a few times just for her. :)
Got Tinked up one last time, as Tommy was donning his Hook costume for photo ops. Felt like a superstar posing for pictures...flashbulbs everywhere! Sadly, this is the only one I found so far: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bcwong/233527358/
Got back in pirate garb for the AoME/Rohndor party, which was (of course) relocated from 10th floor of the Mariott to a random open area in the back of the Lobby Level near the elevators. Just time for us AoME folks to hang out, talk, drink, and have a good time. Party was interrupted by the Disco Elevator folks-they just rode the elevator for about half an hour, dancing and being crazy. Eventually, Hill and Michele jumped on with them! Hee! Much fun, all around.
Mostly, Monday was about packing and waiting for the freaking elevators. We figured "you gotta go up to go down" and jumped on one that was going up, only to have it stop at every single floor on the way back down. Sheesh.
Larry from ToRN was nice enough, as he was not checking otu until Tuesday, to let us stash most of our stuff in his room until later. Thanks, Larry! (Not that he'll ever read this.)
Had one final lunch with the AoME crew, which was nice. Wandered around the dealer's room and exhibition halls, but refrained from buying any loot. Did finally get to meet Kerry and Grant from the Mythbusters, who were in a panel when we visited the Walk of Fame earlier in the Con. Never did get to meet Mira Furlan (Rousseau from Lost), though.
Overall, had a GREAT time. Sadly, missed the Mutants show on Monday, and several of the other panels I wanted to go to. Still need to catch up on sleep.
Hey, guys...let's do it again next year! :)
